Architect and Developer

Visbrunn Portal is designed and built by Christian Sverdrup-Engelschiøn as a practical working environment for maps, AI agents, scientific tools, and structured knowledge work.

The portal is made to support real work: reading terrain, collecting information, running calculations, keeping track of sources, and turning data into something that can be understood and used.

Who Christian Is

Christian Sverdrup-Engelschiøn has worked with software development since he was twelve years old, starting on an Apple II and later moving into professional development on the Microsoft .NET and Azure platforms. He is an integration expert, and today his main work is C#, integration development, cloud architecture, and practical systems built around real operational needs.

Visbrunn is not built as an experiment or a hobby project. It is built because Christian needs this kind of tool himself. The portal grows out of many years of practical expedition planning and field experience in Norwegian forests, high mountains, winter terrain, and the Canadian Arctic tundra.

Navigation, planning, mathematics, weather, and cold-weather wilderness travel have always been central interests. When those interests meet long experience as a developer, products like Visbrunn first take shape as ideas, and then as working software.

He built the first version of this kind of tool in 2010, with functionality for compass course calculations and waypoint logging using SPOT Connect. Visbrunn continues parts of that original direction, while extending it with modern map tools, scientific calculations, AI-assisted analysis, weather history, route planning, and expedition support.

A key part of the platform is the continuous collection and analysis of weather data from YR for locations of special interest. For some places, Christian has collected connected weather data for more than six years. This makes it possible to compare historical weather, current conditions, and forecasted weather, including longer forecast windows. Future integrations may include sources such as Varsom warnings and NVE data for deeper AI-supported analysis.

Built With

Visbrunn is built as a modern .NET and Azure-based application, with a web portal, function apps, shared application and infrastructure layers, SQL storage, blob storage, map integrations, and AI services.

The architecture is meant to keep the system understandable as it grows: each runtime has a clear responsibility, configuration is explicit, and shared behavior is placed where it can be reused without hiding what is going on.
